Fiscal Year 2023 Annual Report now available online

 

Santa Rosa County's 2023 annual report is now available to the public online. The annual report is a full-color report that provides a demographic profile and comparison statistics on the county as well as information on leadership including the five county commissioners, county administration and attorney.

 

Each department of the county is featured with highlights of the accomplishments of the past fiscal year. Photography was provided by Santa Rosa County employees.

 

A few of the accomplishments of county staff included in the annual report:

  • Provided excellent service to the community despite the staff to resident ratio being much higher than neighboring counties at one employee to every 463 residents.
  • The parks department maintained over 500 acres per week.
  • The library system started a new "Meet the Farmer" program by partnering with Soil and Conservation. An event was held at each library for National Agriculture Day. The libraries also held 30 programs for K-5th grade which resulted in 2,066 in attendance.
  • Soil Conservation awarded $2.1 million in federal funds allocated for conservation projects and $2.5 million in grant funds allocated for conservation programs.
  • Veterans services assisted nearly 13,000 veterans and family members, helping submit 1,000 new claims to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
  • Economic development was awarded over $12 million in grants for constructing a taxiway and apron to connect the Naval Air Station (NAS) Whiting Field to the Whiting Aviation Park.
  • The grants department brought in millions of dollars in grants including $5.7 million in awards supporting innovative stormwater management and flood mitigation for various projects.
  • The grants department also assisted with broadband expansion resulting in $41.8 million awarded to private enterprises to expand fiber optic cable 2,483 miles.
  • The housing department assisted 57 families and $1,405,147 was invested to support affordable housing initiatives.
  • Engineering completed many projects including Swenson Park, Floridatown pier rehabilitation and Edgewood Drive bike lane and sidewalks.
  • Animal Services maintained its "no-kill" shelter status and also started a new Community Cats Days program that has already spayed/neutered over 500 community (feral) cats.
  • Emergency management provided 36 CPR/AED, 67 CPR/first aid, nine first-aid and two wilderness first-aid classes to the community training over 800 community members.
  • Emergency communications (911 dispatch) answered 72,640 calls to 9-1-1.
  • Solid waste management department educated over 650 school-aged students plus teachers and parents on the management of solid waste, recycling and environmental stewardship during several field trips at the landfill and at off-site educational events.
  • Household hazardous waste department collected almost 10,000 gallons of household chemicals, 14,784 gallons of waste oil and gas, and approximately 1,800 lbs. of used oil filters, and 6,000 fluorescent bulbs and tubes.
  • Mosquito control treated over 500 holding ponds, 400 ditches and cross drains, 100 areas of standing water, 20 abandoned swimming pools, and placed an estimated 100,000 Gambusia fish that feed on mosquito larvae.
  • Public works resurfaced 50.28 miles of road and completed 4,414 citizen requests.
