GULF BREEZE, Fla. – Gulf Islands National Seashore will close the following public facilities in Florida beginning January 21 for an incoming winter storm.

The facilities that will be closed are the Park Headquarters, Fort Pickens campground office, park store in Fort Pickens, Okaloosa and Opal Beach Area restrooms, and all entrance stations (Fort Pickens, Opal Beach, and Perdido Key Areas).

“This closure is in response to the severe winter weather forecasted by the National Weather Service for the Gulf Coast,” said Rick Clark, Gulf Islands National Seashore Superintendent. “Predicted inclement conditions, including poor visibility and deteriorating road conditions, are expected. While visitor centers, visitor contact areas, and fee entrance stations will not be staffed, the park will remain open for regular day use in accordance with normal operating hours. Visitors are advised to use caution when driving, dress appropriately, and minimize exposure to the cold.”
The restrooms open to the public are listed below. The campground restrooms will be open to registered campers only.
Open Restrooms

  • Fort Pickens Area - Fort Pickens Ferry Plaza
  • Naval Live Oaks Area - South Pavilion, east of headquarters building
  • Johnson Beach Perdido Key Area - west restroom closest to the flagpole

The park will review the weather and facilities daily for updates. For more information, please follow the park’s social media accounts and website.
