Scam alert: Skip the Self-Employment Tax Credit claim.

 

The IRS has warned about a new scam involving a fictitious self-employment tax credit. This false credit, which some social media posts claim can amount to $32,000, doesn't exist. Scammers are misleading taxpayers by merging details of COVID-19 relief credits for sick and family leaves from prior years to fabricate this non-existent credit. In truth, self-employed individuals are only eligible to deduct half of their self-employment tax. Find out more.
