A Winter Storm WARNING is in effect for the entire area from 6 AM Tuesday through 6 AM Wednesday. A significant winter storm is likely! Snow begins Tuesday morning across southeast Mississippi and Southwest Alabama, then spreads east through the afternoon and tapers off at night. A mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow is possible along the coast although trends indicate this may be all snow.
Most likely snow amounts are between 1-3 inches although locally 4-5 inches of snow cannot be ruled out.
Regardless of specific snow totals, moderate to major impacts are expected. Roads, bridges and overpasses will become icy, making travel very hazardous if not impossible at times. Power outages and tree damage are possible.
If you are not being required to report into work, stay home Tuesday. If you are required to report in, make plans to travel to your job early. At the current forecast, we could begin seeing impacts as early as 11 a.m. on Tuesday - keep in mind this timing could still change.
Ice and snow means take it slow - slower speed, slower acceleration, slower steering, and slower braking.
Bitter cold has settled into the area and will persist through the latter half of the week.
