Farm to City Food Distribution November 24

The University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) West Florida Research and Education Center (WFREC), in partnership with Feeding the Gulf Coast and Santa Rosa County Farm Bureau, will help provide Thanksgiving meals to 1,000 families across Santa Rosa and Escambia Counties through its annual Farm to City Food Distribution event on Tuesday, November 24.

This collaborative effort will provide holiday meal boxes to 500 families in Santa Rosa County and 500 families in Escambia County, helping local families enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal while highlighting the importance of agriculture in our communities. This event is first-come, first-served, with up to two families per vehicle.

Feeding the Gulf Coast will provide holiday meal boxes containing a turkey or ham, depending on availability, along with traditional Thanksgiving side items. UF/IFAS WFREC and Santa Rosa County Farm Bureau will contribute fresh, locally grown produce such as collard greens, turnips, cabbage, and sweet potatoes to help complete each family's holiday meal.

"Farm to City is about more than providing food for Thanksgiving," said Robin Vickers, event coordinator. "It is about bringing agriculture and our communities together, supporting local producers, and helping families understand the important role agriculture plays in our everyday lives."

In addition to addressing food insecurity during the holiday season, the Farm to City initiative provides an opportunity to connect residents with agriculture and increase awareness of its economic, environmental, and societal benefits.
